The idea of developing a livelihood project to help combat urban poverty in partnership with creative Filipino women in Manila, Philippines began in late 2005. Working together with a small group of artisans, co-founders, Jason Weimer and Vivien Ruiz, developed a simple business plan that has now become the foundation of what Woven Joy is today.
Woven Joy officially organized and began in early 2006. It was quickly discovered that a large market for ethically produced products and services among today's conscious buyers existed. Over the next several years Woven Joy grew and expanded with the help from increased sales and interest from the fashion industry.
Today, Woven Joy is a US registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors. Woven Joy is also a member of the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) abiding by the internationally recognized 9 principles of fair trade.
